About Us
Welcome!
My name is Radan Bem, but since birth, everyone has called me Dan. And that has stuck with me.
Karolina is my daughter, who unfortunately was born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Karolina cannot walk, sit, speak, or control her hands, so she requires care 24/7.
Our lives were turned upside down on July 22, 2023, when we lost Michaela. I lost a loving wife, and Karolina lost a beloved mother. After a long battle, Michaela succumbed to breast cancer.
However, this page was not created for us to complain about our misfortune. I had to radically change my life and adapt to Karolina's needs, just as Michaela would have wanted. During this sudden change, I rediscovered a long-lost love for writing. This was greatly aided by the fact that I took over the duty of writing school reports about what Karolina and I did over the weekend, a task Michaela used to do.
At first, I struggled with these reports, but after some time, I got into the swing of things. And I have to say, it brings me pleasure. I try to ensure that our reports bring joy and smiles to Karolina's class when they are read. So, my big thanks go to the teachers at Schaumburg High School. For now, I plan to write a blog with photos about the everyday concerns and challenges that Karolina and I face. And we try to fight our misfortune with the strongest weapon, humor, and a smile.
So, welcome, and I hope you enjoy your time here.
